The city of Detroit recently enacted a new ordinance that mandates and establishes system standards for DVR based CCTV systems in area gas stations. This ordinance was adopted after several serious crimes occurred in and around these businesses. Notably, the highly publicized robbery and assault of a local pastor in 2012. In April of this year, a motorist was beaten when he stopped to aid a child he had accidentally struck after the child ran in front of his vehicle.
Detroit Police officials report having received some praise and some criticism from the media regarding the adoption of this new ordinance, but intend to provide information that will help alleviate many of the misconceptions surrounding its details.
Special thanks to Detective Ron Gibson of the Detroit Police Department for sharing the details behind this new ordinance.

LEVA is proud to announce the launch of a new and updated website, LEVA international, Inc. Designed by valued member and LEVA Instructor Larry Compton, the new site has several updated and additional capabilities.
Community Forums - Now, both members and public visitors to the site have the opportunity to ask questions, post and respond to comments and discussion threads, make suggestions and provide feedback to LEVA Officers and Board members.
"Members Only" Section - LEVA members may now see which other members are online (click on the "Control Panel" link in the main menu or visit the forums), send and receive messages to other members without the recipient's email being disclosed, update their own membership profiles with images and information, post and respond to "Members Only" forums and discussion threads, and link video content to the new video library.
Video Library - LEVA's new website now features a new and robust video library containing FVA, DME and law enforcement related video content. LEVA members will now be able to link videos to the library to share, including tutorials on FVA or DME related techniques. Members can make the videos viewable to the public or just to other members by editing the publishing options for their video.
Purchasing & Registrations - Now both public visitors and members can register and will soon be able to make secure online payments for LEVA training and events through the updated purchasing and registration module. LEVA members are encouraged to log into the "Members Only" section to receive member discounts for training and event purchases.
All current LEVA members should have member account for the new site. All user names are in the following format “FLast” (i.e. First initial/Last name), and passwords were set to “levaXXXX”…where XXXX equals their membership number. Members can change their passwords by editing their profile after logging in.
Everyone is encouraged to visit the site and explore all it's new features. The LEVA Board of Directors would especially like to thank Larry Compton for all his time and effort in designing and launching the new leva.org. It is a significant upgrade to previous LEVA websites and will more adequately address the needs of all LEVA members.
