Expired Certification Reinstatement Process

EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2024

In order to maintain the integrity of the LEVA Certification Program, the following will apply to certification reinstatement regarding lapsed renewals:

– Any applicant for renewal as a LEVA Certified Forensic Video Technician (CFVT) or a LEVA Certified Forensic Video Analyst (CFVA) who does not complete their application and meet renewal requirements before the expiration of their certification will, upon request, be granted a 30 day “grace period” to renew. The grace period begins on the date of certification expiration, but does not extend the certification past the expiration date.

– If the applicant does not successfully renew certification by the end of the grace period the applicant must pay a USD 300 fee in order to proceed with renewing.

– In addition to the USD 300 fee, if requirements for certification renewal are not satisfied within 120 days of the certification’s expiration or the renewal application package is submitted later than 120 days of the certification’s expiration, but within one year of the expiration date of certification, a passing score (minimum 70%) must be achieved on a LEVA provided competency test.

– For CFVTs: If the application for renewal is submitted more than one year after expiration, the applicant must retake and pass Level 2 at the applicant’s expense.

– For CFVAs: If the application for renewal is made more than one year after expiration, the applicant must retake and pass Level 4 at the applicant’s expense.

– In all cases, the certification expires as per the date on the applicant’s certificate.

– None of the foregoing has the effect of extending certification.

– Once the applicant successfully renews certification, a new three-year period of certification will commence.

– During the interim though, the applicant will not be certified by LEVA. Submit any questions to J.J. Ruano, Certification Program Manager, certification@leva.org.
